Tactile Interactive Ships Tactile Interrogator Early Access

Evolutionary Technology eases System Management on Mac OS X

SAN FRANCISCO, CA - MACWORLD EXPO - January 4, 2004 - Tactile Interactive Software today announced the immediate availability of Tactile Interrogator Early Access(tm), its revolutionary new file manager.

Tactile Interrogator Early Access provides a rich graphical file view of Mac OS X's powerful Unix underpinnings. Although similar to the Finder, it uses colored icons, in different sizes, to give the Mac user an informative picture of a directory at a glance. It has many other power features designed for programmers, system administrators, and power users. It is designed to complement and extend the management capabilities of the Terminal and the Finder.

"Interrogator is designed for power users, people who deal with massive amounts of files all the time, and who need to absorb a lot of information each second", said the president and founder, Allan Bonadio. "One window that shows only one directory at a time - that's not enough. That's kid stuff."

Tactile Interrogator was built from the ground up to move beyond the limited capabilities of Mac OS X's consumer-oriented Finder. For instance, Interrogator can alert users to unauthorized changes, or to file permissions that are too permissive. Using the Terminal or the Finder for the same tasks would be tedious.

Touch Targeting (tm) allows the user to navigate by simply typing in filenames. The system also supports wildcard characters, and searches in subdirectories. For instance, the user can find all files that match the pattern *.h in all subdirectories, and be presented with all matches, one directory at a time.

Full Disclosure mode is a one-click solution that shows all of the information about a file at once, including Mac attributes and Unix permissions. It also shows statistics on directory contents, not just the total contents, but more subtle statistics such as the oldest date or the most permissive subdirectory.

Tactile Interrogator bridges the gap between the Unix world and the Mac OS world. Although initially written for Unix users, the program retrieves and uses Mac file attributes and characteristics. For instance, Unix symlink files are, internally, very different from Mac alias files, although they are used similarly. Interrogator understands both, providing a robust solution to bridge the Mac OS - Unix gap.
